Overview

Qatna occupies Tell Mishrifeh northeast of Homs. In the second millennium BCE it was the centre of a powerful Syrian kingdom connected to neighbouring courts through diplomacy and trade. Archaeologists uncovered a vast royal palace, an archive and richly furnished royal and elite tombs beneath the palace complex. These discoveries illuminate kingship, burial rituals and international exchange in Bronze Age Syria. This archaeological Qatna is not the modern town of Qatana in Rif Dimashq near Damascus; use Tell Mishrifeh and Homs when identifying the destination.
