Overview
Til Barsib on the Upper Euphrates was a capital of the Aramaean state of Bit-Adini. Assyria conquered it in the ninth century BCE and renamed it Kar-Shalmaneser. Excavations revealed carved monuments and later painted rooms from its Assyrian administration.
Significance
A key record of the shift from independent Aramaean rule to Assyrian provincial control.
